Bridge Environmental was established to be an APAC collaborator for international research and development companies deploying research outcomes and novel technologies to solve various agronomic and environmental challenges.
Endophytes can confer resistance to certain environmental stresses, thus improving yield under sub optimal growth conditions.
Bridge Environmental is excited to work with Seattle, WA based AST.
Adaptive Symbiotic Technologies is a biotechnology company focused on addressing abiotic stresses on agricultural and natural ecosystems. AST’s successes stand on the shoulders of more than 150 years of research on symbiotic interactions between plants and microorganisms. Over the last 25 years, the AST team of scientists have discovered that certain types of symbiotic fungi, known as endophytes, can confer several benefits to plants. With this knowledge, we have developed a series of microbial seed and plant treatments to confer stress tolerances to crop plants.
Beginning in 2015, AST has tested cotton in Australia and the USA with their BioEnsure® endophyte inoculum and has found promising results derived from in-furrow and on seed application. In-Furrow application over 3 years in Australia has demonstrated enhanced lint and seed yields compared to untreated control (UTC) areas.
AST BioEnsure® has been tested on more than 25 different crop species in diverse agricultural regions. Crops include cotton, corn, soybeans, rice, wheat, sorghum, lucerne, potato and pasture. Application rates are quite low and the method of application can be via seed treatment, in furrow or foliar.
BioEnsure® is formulated to be compatible with existing seed treatment equipment and chemicals and can be simply added as an additional component during the seed treatment process.
AST BioEnsure®:
• is a naturally occurring fungal endophyte that lives symbiotically inside the plant. It does not establish in the soil.
• does not grow into fruit, seeds or tubers
• is certified Organic in the USA through OMRI. Organic certification in Australia is pending.
In 2016 BioEnsure® treated cotton in Hillston, NSW saw a +4.3% average yield response over an untreated control (UTC).
In 2016 BioEnsure® treated cotton in Texas, USA saw an +11.24% average yield response over UTC.
In 2017 BioEnsure® treated cotton on the same property in Hillston, NSW, a +1.0% average yield response was observed over UTC.
In 2019/20 BioEnsure® treated cotton in Breeza, NSW uplift was observed on reduced irrigated cotton (+4.97%) as well as fully irrigated cotton (+2.91%) both over UTC.
AST would like therefore to give Australian Cotton growers the opportunity to see for themselves on their own crop, by providing free of charge, a concentrated vial of inoculum that can be applied to cotton in furrow at the time of planting.
Things to remember:
• This formulation is best applied in furrow at the time of planting.
• This is a live biological product and should be stored at cool temperatures, out of direct sunlight, and never frozen.
• We want to see the trial, so we request that you physically mark the rows treated with BioEnsure®. Markers will be provided. Also, we request that wherever possible, a GPS map file be provided and a yield map at the end be shared so that we can observe performance in different geographies.
AST knows that growers would like to see the results in their own backyard before committing to buy. That's why we are offering Australian cotton growers a sample to trial this season.
